Apple Strudel

okay baked apples in general are really really yummy. i loooove apples like alllll the time XD apple nachos, apple pie, apple strudel, baked apple, caramel apples…. jesus christ is like apples are like the everything food. if i could, then id eat them all day e’ery day XD theyre so yummy. sadly, theyre not available year round, so i have to switch off between fruits…. oh well its good to have a variety…. like my teacher said, dont put all your eggs in one basket 😀 that class was really annoying anyways XD ummmm so yeah. this is going to sound really really stupid, but if you have never made apple strudel before, then youre going to need to lay some kind of cotton cloth down on to the table when youre rolling out the dough. and then youre going to have to be very very patient when stretching it. its gonna take a while, and dont bother patching it if it tears because youre going to roll it anyways and the hole will be covered up. and dont worry if it leaks onto the pan while its baking. especially if youre going to be serving it immediately. thatll just make it look yummier. mouth waterrrr  what you need: strudel dough

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 3/4 c. lukewarm water

strudel filling

  • 4 cooking apples, washed, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (i just use my mandolin)
  • 2 tbs Vanilla extract
  • 2 tbs brown sugar
  • 2 tbs white sugar
  • 1 ½ tps Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Allspice
  • 2 tbs brown sugar
  • 1 c. walnuts, chopped finely
  • 2tsp grayed lemon peel
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 3/4 c. fine dry bread crumbs (about 2 slices bread)
  • 2 tbs dark seedless raisins
  • 3 tbs Currants/ more raisins
  • 1 c. butter melted and cooled

Dough makinggg!!

okay so take your flour and your salt, and sift them into a large bowl and then make a well in the center. toss in your oil and egg and mix well until its completely incorporated :O yum.then gradually add in the water until it forms a smooth, and soft dough.

plop your dough out to a floured surface slam it on said surface 100 times. the dough’s going to turn from sticky and tense to smooth and elastic. this is definitely going to be quicker than you think. knead your dough for a few minutes and then oil it with anything but olive oil… it makes it a weird notsoyummy texture. cover and then let it rest for 30 minutes so then it can relax and then it wont be so elastic-y when you roll it out.

take your apples, and then chuck your apples,2 tbs brown sugar and vanilla extract into a bowl and stir that around and leave it to sit for 30 minutes also

take your 2 tbs butter and toss that into the pan and then also toss in your bread crumbs and let it fry until its coated in butter. tada. filling prep is done XD and time to move onto the dough prep 😀

cover your table with your bed sheet/cotton cloth of choice, dust with flour in the center. and then plop your dough in. and sprinkle on some more flour. and then roll it out into a square. if you need to, then sprinkle on more flour and then keep on rolling it out until it gets pretty thin. once it gets thin, then brush off any extra flour off the pastry and brush with oil.

heres the weirdly hard part.

going from the center outward, youre going to take your hand, with palms down, then slide it underneath the dough. then gently stretch it out. in the event that it tears, dont bother trying to fix it, just leave it and dont stretch it more. once its all stretched out, then cut off the thick outer edges off and toss it, or save it for decoration. and then leave it to dry for 8-10 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 350°F

take 1/4 if the 1 c. of melted and cooled butter, and brush it onto the pastry. take your fried bread crumbs, and then sprizzinkle it over half the dough. leaving a couple inches off the sides so then you can roll it later. then cover them with your apple slices, then the lemon peels.

toss together the nuts and fruit and add them to the apples and lemon peels.

take your white sugar, other 2 tbs brown sugar, cinnamon and allspice and toss that together in a separate bowl and sprinkle that on top of the nuts and fruit.

compact the fruits and nuts down a little into a tight bundle. drizzle on another 1/2 c. of your melted butter.

fold over three sides of the dough, the 2 short sides, and then one of the long sides. with your tablecloth, pull up the the folded long side, and start rolling it into a tight roll. pull the tablecloth back after every revolution so then you dont roll it into your strudel, because im pretty sure that baked table cloth doesnt taste so hot.

then brush off any extra flour, and somehow maneuver the roll onto your baking sheet . i just roll the roll towards the end of the cloth, gather up the extra cloth around it, and then pick it up. then i just simply roll it off the table cloth onto the baking sheet, then brush it down completely with 1/4 of the remaining butter.

bake it for 35-45 minutes, or until it crackles when poked gently. while its baking, then baste the roll 4 times with the remaining butter.

once its done baking, then place it on a cooling rack to cool a little, and then dust with come confectioners sugar, and serve warm. it goes excellent with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream, just like any other baked apple product! happy bakings everyone! hope you enjoy! 😀
